An Avocado a Day . . .

If you’re looking for a food that may help fight cancers, prevent osteoporosis, lower your risk of depression, improve your digestion, and prevent constipation, look no further than the avocado.  Many people still shy away from it because they believe it contains too much fat and too many calories but the reality is quite different.  Calorie-wise they contain the same number as an average candy, but with tons of nutrition.   Avocados offer vitamin K which can improve bone health by increasing calcium absorption.  They also contain folate, which has shown promise is protecting against certain cancers and may help with depression, and the fiber is associated with lower risks of developing coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, and insulin resistance.  Today’s tip is to use avocados anywhere and everywhere!  Spread them on toast instead of butter.  Use avocados instead of mayo in chicken or egg salad or as a spread on a sandwich.  Add them to your salads.  Eat them with your chips and salsa.  Scoop one out and cook an egg inside!
